The mechanisms in this temple are awe inspiring. If it weren’t for an emergency frequency repeating her husbands plea for rescue, this would be a comforting respite from the storm.Įvery new camp uncovers more and more vast structures. She finds a room with a beautiful ship lap barrel vault and wood plank walls. Norah enters the ship and it is awash in the red glow of emergency lights. There is one comfort, a small room with a projector (I only find this comforting because everything else is so intensely creepy and suspenseful). Again, there is very little music (which is important due to the sonic nature of the puzzle), but this time the ambient sounds are not a comforting wind blowing through the trees and a waterfall they are a creaking ship and lightning cracking every few seconds. The story in the camp is probably the creepiest and my favorite of any of the other puzzle areas. The camp has canvas tents and wood supports set up. Yet another camp awaits, but the atmosphere shifted from beautiful vanilla sky to a haunting stormy night. Norah awakes on the beach of the crashed ship that she spotted at the previous camp. I AM GOING TO SPOIL SO MUCH OF THIS GAME. SERIOUSLY STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN’T PLAYED IT. Um… well… that’s about it I guess? Let’s dive into Call of the Sea. Also, glares off shiny items often look like things you need to pick up due to the highlight mechanism being a small white dot. I guess this added to the anxiety of not being able to see behind you the entire time, but I would have preferred a quicker climb and descent. I regretted not taking it more seriously from the git-go, the game is a curated journey to and from madness and the architecture is one of the main vehicles.īefore I jump into why the architecture is beautifully orchestrated, I want to briefly touch on some of the things that I did not like in the game. She asked me whether I was going to write a review of the architecture in the game and I said something along the lines of “no, it’s just a bunch of huts and camps. I installed Call of the Sea due to it’s cover art and gameplay style (appealing to her love for Nancy Drew point and click puzzle games). I thought I’d try to recapture some of that magic with some of the games on Games Pass while trying to keep my expectations in check (I’ve definitely had some misses). Nice relaxed gameplay, soothing scenery, fun puzzles. In the past we have had a few puzzle games with interesting stories/lore that we have enjoyed. As an indicator for our game tastes, she loves the Sims and Nancy Drew games my most played games over the last 2 years are Hades and Destiny 2, so we don’t really have all that much in common in video game tastes (though if someone wanted to make a Hades game where I can build a house and get a day job, I wouldn’t say no). My wife and I cut back pretty far on mindless TV consumption and in the process we have been playing games together. It’s on Xbox Games Pass for PC and consoles so you really have no reason NOT to play it. Just trust me on this one, this is a game you want to play whether you are a hardcore gamer, an innocent casual gamer, or never played a video game at all. SPOILERS GALORE: DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME.
